Darryka Frederick is a current graduate student at Texas Southern University, where she is pursuing her Masters of Arts degree in Community Clinical Psychology. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
She is an avid advocate for mental health wellness and awareness, which she promoted throughout her undergraduate career through volunteer work at the school’s clinic. She has served marginalized groups assisting in the provision of STD testing, suicide awareness and prevention events, mental health awareness events.
She has also worked with Voices Poetry Group to foster an artistic space as an outlet for those dealing with mental health issues. Through open mic and poetry shows with yoga, meditation and reflective writing incorporated into the events, she was able to assist young adults as they navigated through the stresses of college.
Additionally, she has experience working with adolescents, including students with learning disabilities, behavioral issues as a teacher, tutor and teaching fellow. Darryka is passionate about bringing proper mental health services to those who are not likely to receive them.
