Helping Kids and Teens Build the Skills School Doesn’t Teach

Does your child or teen know what they’re supposed to do—but still struggle to do it? Missing assignments, disorganization, procrastination, emotional outbursts, and daily power struggles are often signs of executive functioning challenges, not a lack of effort or motivation.

Our 6-Week Executive Functioning Skills Program is designed to help kids and teens develop the core skills they need to manage school, responsibilities, and daily life with more confidence and independence.

What Is Executive Functioning?

Hillside Walking Trail

Executive functioning refers to the brain-based skills that help us plan, organize, start tasks, manage time, regulate emotions, solve problems, and control impulses. These skills act as the brain’s “management system.”

When executive functioning is weak, kids and teens may:
⦁    Struggle to start homework or complete tasks independently
⦁    Lose materials, forget assignments, or feel overwhelmed
⦁    Procrastinate—even on important or preferred tasks
⦁    Have difficulty planning ahead or breaking tasks into steps
⦁    Act impulsively or react emotionally when frustrated
⦁    Feel discouraged, anxious, or “not good enough” despite strong abilities

Executive functioning challenges are especially common in youth with ADHD, Autism, learning differences, anxiety, and gifted learners—but any child can benefit from explicit skill-building.

Program Overview: 6 Weeks of Practical Skill-Building
This structured, supportive program focuses on teaching how to think, plan, and act—using concrete tools kids and teens can apply immediately.

Weekly focus areas include:
⦁    Time Management – Understanding time, estimating tasks, and building routines
⦁    Organization – Managing materials, digital clutter, and personal spaces
⦁    Planning & Prioritization – Breaking big tasks into manageable steps
⦁    Procrastination & Task Initiation – Getting started even when motivation is low
⦁    Problem Solving – Flexible thinking, coping with obstacles, and self-advocacy
⦁    Impulse Control – Pausing, thinking ahead, and regulating reactions

Each session emphasizes real-life application, not lectures—helping participants practice skills in ways that make sense for their age and developmental level.
