Christopher Nguyen, MA

Doctoral Intern

My name is Christopher Nguyen, and I am a doctoral level student with a background in teaching. I hold a master’s degree in English with a concentration on British Literature and I am currently in the doctoral program for Clinical Psychology at Walden University. The experiences that I gained as a teacher helped shape my outlook on how to handle difficult situations and how to communicate and coordinate between members of an integrated team. I am driven by compassion and see the necessity of empathy for others as the best means of gaining rapport with others and conflict de-escalation. I am fluent in Vietnamese and English, and as a former ESL student and first-generation graduate student, I can connect with a diverse population. With my experience as a teacher, I was blessed to teach many students, but deep down I wanted to do more than just teach. It was due to my rapport building with my students that many would come to me with their problems, and I knew that I did not have the training to help then yet. This influenced me to pursue psychology and help as many people as I could. Since many of my students were veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, I have a particular soft spot for this population, and I am committed to helping them heal and improve their quality of life. I am here to learn both from the members of this practice and from the clients who walk through its doors. I strive to make positive social change and I will not falter in my commitment to treating people with compassion and dignity if they ask for my help.
